Revolution, Anarchy, or Madness?: A Crisis in American Leadership

The 'Ultimate Revolution' - "1984" or "Brave New World"?

For me, Steven Kazmierczak's shooting incident at NIU is only the most recent in a series of similar, recurring nightmares over nearly a decade now. As a 57 year-old educator with a strong background in Counseling Psychology, and father of two college age youth myself, once again, I'm dismayed by the inattention of friends, neighbors, coworkers, and even family members, who insistently ignore or otherwise discount the concerns of those like Steven (and myself).

Rather than fostering greater compassion or understanding between us though, this event is likely to further cement the need for tightened 'security' and additional 'surveillance' to quell the irrational fears and likelihood that any of those just mentioned, could become a future victim themselves. Yet, because the magnitude of psychological disorder amongst the public at this juncture is virtually endemic, it's highly unlikely anyone can, or will, attempt to rectify that particular situation.

This ongoing sequence of senseless violence then, is just the latest smattering of evidence pointing to the fact our nation is teetering on the brink of an irremissible moral breakdown. Consequently, the underlying issue for me is whether our citizenry over the next year or two, will coalesce in empowering leadership which can effectively address this reality or instead, continue to absolve itself of any responsibility by abdicating the Constitutional power and authority to do so, all the while, tumbling headlong towards totalitarianism.

Of course, this view assumes the premise that Americans are still independent agents in their capacity to exercise 'free choice'; an assumption that's increasingly in question. Confronting denial ourselves, but in the very midst of the madness threatening to engulf us we ask rather mindlessly, 'Why . . . how could this happen?'

Such is the case even in my own community where the 22 year-old son of a pastor friend of mine, took his own life a few months ago. 'Why?' How could an intelligent, vibrant, young person with his entire destiny before him, choose to end his existence?

Morbidly enough, his closest friends divulged the answer in the first few minutes of their fallen mate's memorial service. 'He couldn't handle the lies any longer!'

'Lies, what lies? . . . Who's lying?'

WE ARE!

You, and I . . . otherwise average, relatively normal people who regularly attend church in a desperate, but nonetheless ritualistic attempt to reassure each other that as bad as things are, God is sovereign and omnipotent, and He loves us, and it's all going to be okay . . . we just need to 'keep the faith', 'stay on our medication', and allow those brighter and more powerful than ourselves to work things out.

Unfortunately, we too have fallen victim to the very deception we've supplanted for 'truth'. Consequently though, we're left to scuffle through our daily existence like the soulless, 'living dead' we've become, as history is hijacked, theology defiled, our heritage debased, and human knowledge repressed; all in further advancing the Party's imposed plan and ideology for 'global democracy'.

The real cost of serving Mammon however, WILL, eventually prove more than we can bear.
